GROUP OF EIGHT AUSTRALIA - GERMANY JOINT RESEARCH COOPERATION SCHEME (DAAD) This Scheme is a jointly funded initiative of the Group of Eight (Go8) Universities and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Running for three years from 2008-2010 inclusive, it supports exchanges for Australian researchers to spend time at partner institutions in Germany and for collaborating German researchers to spend time at Go8 universities.
How to Apply
University of New South Wales researchers will first need to identify researchers employed at German Universities or Fachhochschulen with whom to collaborate. The proposed exchange may arise from existing or new collaborations. Once the project and the terms of exchange have been decided, UNSW researchers will complete the Application Pack and submit it to the Grants Management Office, together with a completed GALF Form. Your German collaborators will go through a similar exercise in Germany, putting forward their matching proposal to DAAD.
Funding Available
The Scheme provided for return air fares and a per diem of $200AUD per day at the host institution (or at other locations in Germany necessary for the research) or a maximum of $3,000AUD per month per person.
Selection Criteria
Researchers preparing applications should keep in mind that their proposal will be judged against the following selection criteria:
Selection Process
Applications are first ranked by UNSW against the above criteria. They are then referred to the Go8 Office and reported to DAAD. DAAD's German selection panel will then use the Australian rankings to inform their own decision making. The DAAD's decisions are referred for Go8 endorsement and funding by Australian universities.
Timeframe
Reporting Requirements
On 28 February 2010 researchers will submit a progress report if their exchange is still in progress, and then a final report 2 months after the finalisation of the project. If the exhange has been completed, then a final report will be submitted at that date.
Last Year's Recipients of DAAD funding
Dr Thorsten Trupke, Centre for Excellence for Advanced Silicon Photovoltaics and Photonics ($10,600 to UNSW)
Professor Paul Munro and Dr V. Nagarajan, School of Materials Science and Engineering ($12,000 to UNSW)
