Group of Eight – European Fellowships

This is a Go8 funded scheme offering fellowships to early career researchers in Europe.  The scheme aims to further research collaboration between Australia and Europe by offering fellowships for between 16 weeks and six months, in Go8 universities.  Fellowships are open to citizens of Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania and Bulgaria and Croatia. 
 
How to apply
UNSW academic supervisors need to support and submit an application on behalf of the prospective candidate.  The closing date for GMO to receive applications is 09 October 2009. Applications are avaliable at www.go8.edu.au.
 
Funding Available
The scheme provides AUD$18,000 to the fellow for travel and living expenses and AUD$2000 to the host School/Centre/Faculty for incidental expenses.  It is anticipated fellows will continue to receive a salary from their employers in their home countries.
 
Eligibility Criteria
You are eligible to apply if you:
  • are a citizen of Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria or Croatia, or you reside in one of these countries;
  • have completed a PHD less than five years prior to the application closing date;
  • are under 40 years of age at the application closing date;
  • have been employed (minimum half-time appointment) for at least six months prior to the application closing date by a university or research organisation (public or private) in one of the designated countries above;
  • have sufficient competency in English to be able to adequately communicate with researchers in the host university;
  • are eligible to obtain an Australian Visiting Academic Visa (subclass 419) or equivalent Australian visa.

Applications are referred to the Go8 office.

Reporting Requirements
A two page report on the fellowship experience within three months of completion; and at least one public presentation regarding their research at their host university.
