How to log onto the Ethics Online system?

  • Internal user

  • Once you become an official staff member (full time, part time) or have enrolled in any of the post graduate courses as a student in UNSW, an ethics online account will automatically be set up for you.

    To access Ethics Online:
    You will need to enter a Username and Password. Your Username is your Staff or Student ID (which is usually prefixed by s for staff and z for students); your Password is your UniPass ID as assigned by the Information Technology Helpdesk (ITD).

    Note: Please contact ITD on 93851333 if you do not know your UniPass ID, have forgotten it, or have problems with your UniPass



  • External user

  • If you are not an employee or student of UNSW, you will need to apply for an external user login by submitting the following online application form:

    To access Ethics Online:
    Once we receive your application, we will assess your eligibility and an account will be set up for you. You will receive an email with the assigned login.

    For security reasons, you will be asked to change your password the first time you log onto Ethics Online. Please follow the steps below to change your password:

    1. Log on to the Ethics Online using the login emailed to you

    2. Go to the section Animal Ethics User Profile > My Profile on the left side navigation

    3. Overwrite the current password indicated by * in the Password field with your nominated password and click SAVE at the bottom of the page

    Note: When you are first given access to Ethics Online, you are provided General Investigator access rights.

    How to obtain the chief investigator’s access rights?

    If you want to create and submit applications, you will need to upgrade your rights from a general investigator to a chief investigator. To do this, you will need to firstly obtain the advice/approval from the Ethics Secretariat . The chief investigator’s rights will be added to your online profile once approval is received from the Secretariat.

    * Add new co-investigators or new other participants
    * Change the role of existing co-investigators or other participants
    * Change details of the project
    * Change the alternative contact person (ie the person who was nominated in question A.5 on the original application form)
    * Assign existing researchers/personnel with new roles of Monitoring during weekdays (ie question F.5 on the application modification form), or of euthanasing (ie question G.3 on the application modification form)

    Note:
    • 2nd Chief Investigator (ie the person who was nominated in question A.4 on the original application form) can not be changed once approved
    • The only researchers who can be removed from the originally approved application are the ones who were nominated in the original application form:
      • Question B.7 "Who will euthanase the animals"
      • Question F.4 "Who will be responsible for monitoring the animals during weekdays"
