  • Mac and IBM users

  • The Ethics Online system is mainly designed for IBM users. Currently, Ethics Online does not have full support for Mac users. For Macintosh users, please email Ethics Online or contact Felicia Wong on 93854459 if you encounter any problems using the Ethics Online system.

  • Web browser

  • It is recommended that you use Firefox to access the Ethics Online system as there may be problems in the format displayed when using Internet Explorer (IE).

    Firefox can be downloaded for free from the Internet. Click here to download the instructions for installing Firefox.

    Quick tips

    How to find a particular application/project from the list of existing applications?

    Note: existing applications are sorted by the Application ID in descending order on various screens

    • On the required screen, do a CTRL + F to bring up the Find function

    • Enter any part of the project title, or Approval ID as follows:



    • You will notice that the cursor will start highlighting on words which have the entered requirement

    • Keep clicking the NEXT button to go to the next found word or HIGHLIGHT ALL button to show all of the found words


    How to print out certain sections of an existing application?

    • For the required application, click PRINT under Action column to bring up the following sections of the application:

    • By default, all of the sections are clicked (ie it will print out all sections). Simply unclick the section(s) which is/are not required.

    • Click the Generate Print Page when ready to print


    How to search and add a certain researcher to a new application?

    • To add a researcher to the required question, instead of doing a search by User ID (staff ID or student ID for internal users and administrator-assigned ID for external users) which is often unknown, do a search by Name

    • Enter only parts of the full name. Note:

      • Enter the most unique part of the name e.g. for John Hamster, enter hamst

      • the less you enter, the wider the search will be

    • All personnel whose full name contain the data you entered will be retrieved by the system

    • Select the personnel required by clicking the Nominate button
