1. NHMRC Centres of Research Excellence (CRE)
The sponsor's CREs will provide support for teams of researchers to pursue collaborative research and develop research capacity in clinical, public health and health services. The funding will support Centres of Research Excellence in three schemes, two of which have a specific targeted area identified for one of their centres in 2009: Clinical Research including one Centre specifically targeted to Research into Asbestos Related Diseases; Health Services Research; and Population Health Research including one Centre specifically targeted to Electromagnetic Energy Research.

2. DRINKWISE Community Grants Fund
Applications are invited from innovative and creative community-based projects that apply new ideas and different approaches to promote positive behaviour change to reduce alcohol misuse. DrinkWise will award between $5,000 and $25,000 to grants recipients.

Capacity Building Projects provide support for individuals or groups to extend their experience and try something new that is of considerable value to the sugarcane industry. There are no set definitions for projects providing they demonstrate an ability to assist people to learn, change, or enhance their leadership skills. Funding of up to $5000 for an individual or $10,000 for a group is available.

5. NATIONAL LIBRARY OF AUSTRALIA
 Japan Study Grants
Applications are invited from researchers in Australia who wish to use the Japan-related collections of the National Library for their research. Priority consideration will be given to candidates: who are based in centres where there are few or no library resources in the Japanese language; who can demonstrate a need to use the Library's Japanese or Japan-related collections for their research; and whose proposed study is best able to be supported by the National Library's Japanese and Japan-related collections.

6. DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND AGEING
Research Funding
As part of the community level initiatives component of the National Binge Drinking Strategy¸ the Department of Health and Ageing is seeking applications from incorporated community groups or local government organisations for project proposals that aim to prevent and reduce binge drinking by young people aged 12-24 years. Funding is available for organisations to provide programs in city¸ urban¸ regional¸ rural and remote Australia. Innovative projects and those representing partnerships between community organisations are encouraged.

The Fulbright U.S. Senior Specialist Program subsidises Australian educational institutions to bring a U.S. Senior Specialists to Australia for a two to six week period. It encourages collaboration with United States faculty on curriculum and faculty development as well as a variety of other activities.  i) Small Business Research Grant
The sponsor is offering a grant of up to $10,000 to researchers based in Australian universities for research into small business issues. Research can be on any aspect of small business, however, projects will be assessed according to their relevance to CPA Australia members who are in business or who provide business advice. ii) Frank Burke Scholarship
The sponsor offers up to $10,000 for research in the area of taxation and/or superannuation to academic accounting researchers based in Australian universities. Applicants must be permanent residents of Australia presently employed at an Australian tertiary institution Internal Deadline(s): 24th August 2009. iii) Not for Profit Research Grant The sponsor is offering a grant of up to $10,000 to researchers based in Australian universities for a research project on not-for-profit issues. The project may be on any aspect of the not-for-profit sector. However, applications will be assessed according to their relevance to CPA Australia members who are in the not-for-profit sector or work with this sector.

CSIRO Flagship Clusters
The fifth round of CSIRO Flagship Clusters offers collaboration opportunities in six key research areas of national interest. Flagship clusters will be funded for about three years at approximately A$1 million per annum from the Flagship Collaboration Fund. Co-investment from partner organisations is expected, at least matching the contribution from the Flagship Collaboration Fund.

13. RURAL INDUSTRIES RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION
Research Funding
The Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation invests in the knowledge needs of three portfolio areas: New rural industries; Specific established rural industries; and Cross-sectoral national rural issues. Investments are driven by Five-Year R&D plans which address the needs of each industry and ensure our priorities are industry and government-driven. Overall, our aim is for a more profitable, dynamic and sustainable rural sector.

Jacquot Research Establishment Award
 
The award is intended to assist in the establishment of a career in nephrology research. The Award may provide salary or other support such as laboratory set-up costs or a short-term Research Assistant appointment. Nephrologists, who are fellows of the RACP, who wish to further their studies in the treatment and control of renal disease in a university, hospital or research centre within Australia or New Zealand are eligible to apply. Funding of up to $90,000 per year is available.

Don and Lorraine Jacquot Fellowship
 
The award is intended to provide opportunities for nephrologists, who have completed a postgraduate research degree and are still at an early stage in their research career, to help develop independent research programs to advance knowledge in the treatment of renal disease. The Fellowship is primarily intended as stipend support or part stipend support for the applicant. The Don and Lorraine Jacquot Fellowship recipients will be expected to carry out independent and/or team research and activities that will develop their expertise in biomedical, clinical and/or public health research. They may work with support, guidance and/or direction from more senior colleagues in establishing their research careers. Funding of up to $A90, 000 - $A100, 000 The Fellowship is tenable by an individual for one year in the first instance with the option of renewal for up to five years.

Jacquot Research Entry Scholarship
 
The award is intended to assist the establishment of a career in nephrology research for a nephrologist at any early stage in their career who has a postgraduate research degree in an area of relevance to nephrology. The Award is normally intended to provide laboratory costs or stipend for a Research Assistant, but may also be used for part-stipend for the applicant. The Award is normally for one year with the option of renewal. Funding of up to $A90, 000 per annum.

Harkness Fellowships in Health Care Policy & Practice 2010-2011
The Harkness Fellowships provide a unique opportunity for mid-career professionals—academic researchers, government policymakers, clinicians, managers, and journalists—from Australia, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, to spend up to 12 months in the United States conducting a policy-oriented research study, working with leading U.S. health policy experts, and gaining an in-depth knowledge of the U.S., Australian, Canadian, Dutch, German, New Zealand, and U.K. health care systems. Each fellowship will provide up to US$107,000 in support.

21. THE SPENCER FOUNDATION
Research Grants
As part of a new institutional initiative, the Spencer Foundation will make several awards of up to US$40,000 for research projects in Philosophy as it relates to educational policy and practice. The sponsor has identified the following areas of inquiry: The Relation between Education and Social Opportunity; Organizational Learning in Schools, School Systems, and Higher Education Institutions; Teaching, Learning, and Instructional Resources and Purposes and Values of Education. Proposals are accepted at any time; there are no deadlines
 
22. MYER FOUNDATION
Small Grants Program
The sponsor's current priority areas are: to build capacity of the individual through ensuring that professional artists gain access to training, development and mentoring; and to develop new works by individual Australian artists and small and medium-sized organisations in the areas of Indigenous arts, regional areas, and experimental and emerging art forms. Research Funding
The corporation provides funds to support travel to conferences and workshops that benefit RIRDC industries. Funds may be provided to: provide financial assistance for researchers to present research results to relevant forums. Assist participation in specific, relevant conferences, visits or tours. Assist recognised industry conferences, seminars and workshops by providing support for delegates or speakers and to provide support for international visitors where there are clear benefits for R&D and extension to Australian rural industries.
