Programs that Enhance Learning - Nominations due 10 July 2009 Awards for Programs that Enhance Learning recognise learning and teaching support programs and services that make an outstanding contribution to the quality of student learning and the quality of the student experience. The programs and services that receive these Awards must have demonstrated their effectiveness through rigorous evaluation and will set benchmarks for similar activities in other institutions.
The Learning and Teaching Unit will be holding a workshop for those interested in pursuing this opportunity on the 16th June from 12.30-2pm. This workshop will be held in Room 416, level 4, Matthews building @UNSW.

Development Grants
The Scheme supports the commercial development of a product, process, procedure or service that if applied, would result in improved health care, disease prevention or provide health cost savings.
Applications must demonstrate a basic understanding of the process and steps required to move from research to outcomes that can be commercialised, including: the process and steps to a market, the nature of the market; the milestones and risks of the venture; and an understanding of possible means of handling intellectual property connected with the project. Applications will be lodged using the new NHMRC Research Grants Management System (RGMS). Intending applicants should apply for a Login using the NHMRC form available from the Development Grants link above and should allow sufficient time to familarise themselves with the new system. Research Grant - Expressions of Interest
i) Establishment Grants
These start up grants are intended to provide short term research support for a young investigator who is taking or has taken a new position in another institution (as opposed to a promotion with their current organisation). The applicant must have a maximum of five years cumulative post-doctoral experience as at 1 January 2010. The Grant can be used for any combination of personnel, equipment (excluding infrastructure), consumables or other expenses, but not for travel. The maximum total amount is $50,000.

ii) Equipment Grants
Applications may be made for a contribution for or towards the acquisition of a major item of equipment. Equipment may be used on various projects by a number of investigators within a department or institution. A commitment from the Foundation to contribute will be subject to the balance of the full cost being raised by the applicant, including the matching grant from the host institution.

6. Go8 Australia-Germany joint Research Co-Operation Scheme.

The scheme is a joint initiative of the Group of Eight (Go8) universities and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) with funding of $1.5 million initially for three years from 2009-2011 inclusive. The scheme aims to foster research collaborations of the highest quality between Australian researchers from Go8 universities and German researchers. Exchange participants must either be employed as academic staff members in a teaching and research or research only role at a Go8 university, or a PhD student involved in the research project submitted by an eligible staff member. The scheme will support exchanges for Australian researchers to spend time at partner institutions in Germany and for collaborating German researchers to spend time at Go8 universities.

This strategy for Australia 's future program of scientific research in Antarctica for the period 2004/05-2010/11 is designed to support the Australian Government's role in the Antarctic Treaty System and to enhance our influence in it. Environmental protection, knowledge of the part played by Antarctica in the global climate system, and an understanding of how biological organisms are adapted to the extreme environment and are reacting to change are the main strategic foci for research. Foundation Grants
The sponsor offers support for organizations focusing on increasing access to health care - particularly for the disadvantaged and underserved - in communities where the sponsor's employees live and work. Research Grants Scheme
The Alcohol and Health Medical Research Grants Scheme is funded by Lion Nathan Limited, with the aim of providing financial support for independent research into the potential effects of alcohol consumption. 23. National Breast Cancer Foundation*
i)*NBCF Early Career Fellowship
The aim of this award is to support the development of early career researchers with outstanding potential for a career in breast cancer research. Researchers with a doctorate degree and/or a professional qualification from an accredited institution who have between three and eight years of research or professional experience are encouraged to apply. NBCF believes in the need to be responsive to breast cancer research progress and opportunities nationally and internationally and maximise the use of limited resources. The National Collaborative Breast Cancer Research Grant Program is designed to foster wide collaboration between groups of investigators and pooling of knowledge, expertise and resources to enable larger scale or accelerated research programs into the prevention, causes, treatment or management of breast cancer.

The NSW Writer's Fellowship is offered annually by the Government to assist the writing of new literary work by a writer living in New South Wales. The fellowship is valued at $20,000.

For 55 years it has been awarding a prize for works of art that explore the subject of religious awareness and spirituality. Paul Lowin Prizes
The sponsor provides prizes for living Australian composers in a "modern but not too modern" style. Prizes are awarded in two categories:
Orchestral Prize: Eligible entries include: works scored for a modern chamber or symphony orchestra of at least thirty players and at least fifteen independent lines; works with a duration of not less than twelve to fifteen minutes; and works including instrumental or vocal soloists and/or choral, electronically produced or pre-recorded elements.
Song Cycle Prize: A Song Cycle, for the purposes of the competition, is music suitable for chamber performance, using no more than one to eight independent vocal lines (may be accompanied by up to ten instrumental players). The text of the work must have a unifying theme. The composer and the author of the text may or may not be different people, and the author of the text is not eligible for the prize. The work may be no less than fifteen minutes and no more than sixty minutes duration.

2010 Fulbright Symposium
The Australian-American Fulbright Commission will celebrate the 60th anniversary of its programs for educational and cultural exchange between Australia and the United States in 2010, and will offer a grant of $30,000 to an organisation selected to host the special Fulbright 60th Anniversary Symposium.
