Funding for research grants and fellowships is a competitive process and applications will be assessed against the stated criteria and considered on competitive merit against other applications. 1. World Anti Doping Agency (WADA)
2009 Scientific research Grants
The World Anti-Doping Agencyâs (WADA) Health, Medical and Research Committee (HMRC) have identified relevant areas of research in the field of anti-doping, in particular those related to the List of Prohibited Substances and Methods. WADA promotes and funds, on a yearly basis, scientific projects in the anti-doping field covering the development or optimization of analytical tools for the detection and/or quantification of doping substances or methods as well as the pharmacology and physiological effects of specific substances/methods or group of substances on athletic performance. In this context, WADA gives priority to projects with direct and imminent applicability in the fight against doping in sport over basic research projects.

2. The Ramaciotti Foundation
Research Grant - Expressions of Interest
i) Establishment Grants
These start up grants are intended to provide short term research support for a young investigator who is taking or has taken a new position in another institution (as opposed to a promotion with their current organisation). The applicant must have a maximum of five years cumulative post-doctoral experience as at 1 January 2010. The Grant can be used for any combination of personnel, equipment (excluding infrastructure), consumables or other expenses, but not for travel. The maximum total amount is $50,000.

ii) Equipment Grants
Applications may be made for a contribution for or towards the acquisition of a major item of equipment. Equipment may be used on various projects by a number of investigators within a department or institution. A commitment from the Foundation to contribute will be subject to the balance of the full cost being raised by the applicant, including the matching grant from the host institution.

Home Building and Education Research Grants
The overall aim of the Home Building Grants Program is to provide funding for educational, research and other programs or projects which enhance outcomes for consumers of the home building industryâs services through raising consumer awareness and industry standards.

The sponsor invites applications for the 2009 Brain Foundation Research Grants to support research projects in the neurosciences. The primary objective of the Research Grants is to support individual researchers and research teams to conduct the highest quality research in brain illnesses and neurological disorders as well as brain and spinal injuries. A subsidiary objective is to provide opportunities for early career researchers to gain initiating funding for projects with potential.

6. The Ian Potter Foundation
Project Grants
The Ian Potter Foundation is one of Australia's leading private philanthropic organisations. The Foundation has a track record of funding projects led by far sighted individuals and organisations that improve the Australian community's ability to respond creatively to social, environmental, science and health issues, and that develop our capacity as a nation through the arts and education.

7. Go8 Australia-Germany joint research Co-operation Scheme.
General Call for Research Collaborations

The scheme is a joint initiative of the Group of Eight (Go8) universities and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) with funding of $1.5 million initially for three years from 2009-2011 inclusive. The scheme aims to foster research collaborations of the highest quality between Australian researchers from Go8 universities and German researchers. Exchange participants must either be employed as academic staff members in a teaching and research or research only role at a Go8 university, or a PhD student involved in the research project submitted by an eligible staff member. The scheme will support exchanges for Australian researchers to spend time at partner institutions in Germany and for collaborating German researchers to spend time at Go8 universities.

8. Department of Environment and Climate Change (NSW)
Environmental Trust - Environmental Research program

The sponsor is offering grants of up to $200,000 for projects that help address environmental problems in New South Wales. The Environmental Research Program supports research projects by community groups, universities and research institutions in NSW. The objectives of the Environmental Trust are to: generate new knowledge or information to facilitate local solutions to environmental problems; discover new methods of operation for NSW industries; provide knowledge about general environmental problems; and assess environmental degradation.
Internal Deadline: Only 3 EOI from UNSW can be put forward to the Trust in any round therefore applications must be submitted to GMO by 17th April 2009 for shortlisting.
9. Australian Institue for Nuclear Science and Engineering (AINSE)
Postdoctoral Fellowships
The sponsor provides support for research funding for ophthalmologists, trainee ophthalmologists or for work being done in University Departments of Ophthalmology. The sponsor will consider funding individual grants during 2010 for up to $50,000 for a period of one year.

Applications are now sought form the 2009 Postdoctoral Fellowship program. The areas in which applications are encouraged are: neutron scattering, radiopharmaceuticals, high-resolution climate records using nuclear techniques and materials engineering.

11. Baxter International
Foundation Grants
The sponsor offers support for organizations focusing on increasing access to health care - particularly for the disadvantaged and underserved - in communities where the sponsor's employees live and work. The sponsor funds initiatives that improve the access, quality and cost-effectiveness of healthcare. The sponsor also works to increase the availability, commitment and skills of healthcare providers. Preference is given to proposals that expand or improve access to healthcare with a strong plan for sustaining the services or program beyond the term the grant.

12. Australian Diabetes Society
Servier National Diabetes Strategy Grants in Memory of Barry Young
The grants will be for projects that involve improvement of patient care, consistent with the aims of the National Action Plan. Preference will be given to those projects whose outcome can have general applicability to diabetes care throughout Australia.

13. Australian Spinal Research Foundation
Expressions of Interest - Grants Round 2009
i) Large Research Grants (LRG) are open to researchers and seeks to support the effective research in areas relevant to clinical practice of Chiropractic. This includes but is not limited to the clinical practice of Chiropractic, basic science initiatives and general health care management strategies. Large project budgets should be up to a maximum of $40,000 per year for a maximum of three years.
ii) New Researchers Grants (NRG) may provide limited funds to encourage new researchers. New researchers are those individuals who are starting a research career and have not been previously been named as a Chief Investigator or part of an accepted competitive grant scheme. Project budgets should be up to a maximum of $20,000 per year for a maximum of one year.

14. Clinical Oncological Society of Australia
i) Research Grant (HOTTAH)
The sponsor provides an award to assist in the conduct of research or project initiatives that will be of benefit to the clinical oncology or haematology community within Australia. The research topic may be in any aspect of medical oncology or malignant haematology. Non-research projects must be of wide ranging benefit to the oncology or haematology community of Australia. The research or projects must be conducted within Australia. A grant of $25,000AUD will be available in the first quarter of 2009.

ii) HOTT Fellowship
The fellowships are designed to fund, or part-fund a one-year position, and are intended to assist in the conduct of high quality clinical or translational research, or other project initiatives which will be of benefit to the clinical oncology or haematology community within Australia. Funding of upto $50,000 is available.

15. Alcohol and Health
Research Grants Scheme
The Alcohol and Health Medical Research Grants Scheme is funded by Lion Nathan Limited, with the aim of providing financial support for independent research into the potential effects of alcohol consumption. Applications for grants are open to eligible early career researchers. Funding of up to $35,000 is available.

16. National Breast Cancer Foundation
i)*NBCF Early Career Fellowship
The aim of this award is to support the development of early career researchers with outstanding potential for a career in breast cancer research. Researchers with a doctorate degree and/or a professional qualification from an accredited institution who have between three and eight years of research or professional experience are encouraged to apply. Funding of up to $600,000 over 4 years is available. Application forms are currently under review and will be available on the website soon.

ii)*Novel Concept Award / Pilot Study Grant
The NBCF Novel Concept Award / Pilot Study Grant funding is for a maximum of two years. This grant is limited in scale, with a maximum value of $200,000 per grant for direct costs over one or two years and is non-renewable.

iii) *National Collaborative Breast Cancer Research Program
NBCF believes in the need to be responsive to breast cancer research progress and opportunities nationally and internationally and maximise the use of limited resources. The National Collaborative Breast Cancer Research Grant Program is designed to foster wide collaboration between groups of investigators and pooling of knowledge, expertise and resources to enable larger scale or accelerated research programs into the prevention, causes, treatment or management of breast cancer.

17. Australia Council for the Arts
Literature Fellowships

The purpose of this category is to support excellence in Australian literature by providing highly accomplished literary writers with financial support for two years to enable them to create new work. Nominated projects must be in the following literary genres: fiction; literary non-fiction (defined by the Literature Board as autobiography, biography, essays, histories, literary criticism or other analytical prose); children's and young adult literature; poetry; and creative writing for performance (theatre, radio) or new media (digital, interactive, cross-media). Fellowships are awarded for two years at A$50,000 per year, for up to two years.

18. The Spencer Foundation
Research Grants
As part of a new institutional initiative, the Spencer Foundation will make several awards of up to US$40,000 for research projects in Philosophy as it relates to educational policy and practice. The sponsor has identified the following areas of inquiry: The Relation between Education and Social Opportunity; Organizational Learning in Schools, School Systems, and Higher Education Institutions; Teaching, Learning, and Instructional Resources and Purposes and Values of Education.

The NSW History Fellowship is offered annually by the Government to assist a person living in New South Wales to research and produce a work on a subject of historical interest relating to New South Wales. Applicants are required to demonstrate that their project will add to, or bring fresh perspectives to bear upon, their nominated subject. They should also demonstrate that the project will benefit their experience and development as an historian and/or advance scholarly historical writing in New South Wales Funding of $20,000 is available.

2010 Fulbright Symposium
