Funding for research grants and fellowships is a competitive process and applications will be assessed against the stated criteria and considered on competitive merit against other applications. 1.     NSW Office for Science and Medical Research
*Clinical Research Fellowships

The sponsor invites applications for grants under the NSW Spinal Cord Injury & Related Neurological Conditions Research Grants Program. The program is intended to promote research into spinal cord injury and related neurological conditions. The key objectives of the Program are to: establish a critical mass of relevant research in spinal cord injury and related neurological conditions in NSW, develop, attract or retain relevant research talent to NSW,  and· make significant scientific discoveries most likely to have a positive impact on the lives of those with spinal cord injuries and neurological conditions in NSW

*Career Development Fellowships
The goal of the Career Development Fellowship scheme is to strengthen and encourage the very best researchers in the field of spinal cord injury or related neurological conditions. The Career Development Fellowship is intended to provide funding opportunities to develop and support researchers who have at least 4 and less than 10 years post-doctoral experience and can demonstrate substantial ability and potential as a future research leader in the field of spinal cord injury or related neurological conditions.

2.     Australia Korea Foundation

The Foundation promotes people-to-people and institutional links covering the spectrum of Australia's relations with Korea. This includes education, science and technology, commerce and industry, arts, the media and sport. It administers and funds projects and programs which will assist in achieving its purposes and aims.

3.     Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research 
Australia-China Special Fund for S&T Cooperation Research Grants
The Australian Government in conjunction with the Government of the People's Republic of China has established the Australia-China Fund for S&T Cooperation. The Australia-China Special Fund provides support, on a competitive basis, for Australian researchers to participate in strategically focused, leading edge, international scientific research and technological collaborations with Chinese partners. Research projects must draw on complementary strengths in both countries and meet the objectives of the ISL program. This is a joint Australia-China fund. Applicants must seek funding for collaboration with a Chinese partner. Both the Australian and Chinese partners must submit an application to their respective Government. All applicants should refer to Part three of the ISL Guidelines before commencing an application. The Australian Government will contribute up to $2 million per round.

4.     World Anti Doping Agency (WADA)
2009 Scientific research Grants

The World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) Health, Medical and Research Committee (HMRC) has identified relevant areas of research in the field of anti-doping, in particular those related to the List of Prohibited Substances and Methods. WADA promotes and funds, on a yearly basis, scientific projects in the anti-doping field covering the development or optimization of analytical tools for the detection and/or quantification of doping substances or methods as well as the pharmacology and physiological effects of specific substances/methods or group of substances on athletic performance. In this context, WADA gives priority to projects with direct and imminent applicability in the fight against doping in sport over basic research projects.

5.     Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS)
Indigenous Research Fellow & Visiting Research Fellowship

The sponsor invites applications from excellent candidates in any field of Indigenous studies or policy. The AIATSIS Indigenous researchers fund will support research fellows and scholars to visit AIATSIS and undertake research in Canberra in their fields of interest and, where appropriate, work with relevant government departments to discuss policy and practice.

6.     Brain Foundation
*Research Grants 
The sponsor invites applications for the 2009 Brain Foundation Research Grants to support research projects in the neurosciences. The primary objective of the Research Grants is to support individual researchers and research teams to conduct the highest quality research in brain illnesses and neurological disorders as well as brain and spinal injuries. A subsidiary objective is to provide opportunities for early career researchers to gain initiating funding for projects with potential.

7.     National Library of Australia
Harold White Fellowships 2009
The sponsor offers annual fellowships to established researchers and writers. The scheme aims to promote the Library as a centre of scholarly activity and research. Research projects supported by the fellowship can be in any discipline or are in which the library has strong collections, such as Australian History, politics, art history, geography and musicology.

9.     Australian Institue for Nuclear Science and Engineering (AINSE)
Postdoctoral Fellowships
Applications are now sought form the 2009 Postdoctoral Fellowship program. The areas in which applications are encouraged are: neutron scattering, radiopharmaceuticals, high-resolution climate records using nuclear techniques and materials engineering.

10. Australian Museum
Chadwick Biodiversity Fellowship

This fellowship is to help recent PhD graduates establish a career in biodiversity research. The Chadwick Biodiversity Fellowship provides the applicant with the opportunity to publish papers from their thesis and to apply for grants.  The fellowship also facilitates networking and collaboration with senior research scientists at the Australian Museum and other experts in the field.  Applicants should be Australian citizens or Australian permanent residents and should have been awarded their PhD in a biodiversity-related field consistent with the Australian Museum's Science Research Strategy 2007-2012

11. AUSTRALIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCE

(i) Scientific Visits to China
The sponsor supports professional scientists to visit China between 1 April 2010 and 31 December 2010 to collaborate with researchers in institutes affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Sciences.  Any field of natural science, basic and applied, including mathematics and engineering science, will be considered. 
(ii) Scientific Visits to Europe
Australians with a Ph.D. in any field of natural science, basic and applied, including mathematics and engineering science are invited to visit Europe between 1 January 2010and 31 December 2010 to collaborate with European researchers. The award covers a contribution to international airfares plus a daily living allowance to a maximum amount of $10,500. 
(iii) Scientific Visits to Japan
The sponsor invites applications from professional scientists to visit Japan between 1 April 2010 and 31 December 2010 to collaborate with researchers in institutes affiliated with the JSPS. Proposals in any field of natural science, basic and applied, including mathematics and engineering science will be considered. The duration of the visit must be between 14 and 40 days. 
(iv) Scientific Visits to Korea
Australian scientists holding a Ph.D. in any field of natural science, basic and applied, including mathematics and engineering science, will be considered for visits to Korea to conduct collaborative research. The duration of visits must be between 14 and 28 days. Visits should occur between 1 April 2010 and 31 December 2010. 
(v) Scientific Visits to Taiwan
Support is provided for professional scientists to visit Taiwan between 1 April 2010 and 31 December 2010 to conduct collaborative research. Proposals in any field of natural science, basic and applied, including mathematics and engineering science, will be considered.  The program provides a return airfare and a daily allowance for a period between two and four weeks. Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents. 
(vi) Scientific Visits to the USA, Canada and Mexico
Australians with a Ph.D. in any field of natural science, basic and applied, including mathematics and engineering science are invited to visit the USA, Canada and Mexico between 1 January 2010 and 31 December 2010 for collaborative research. Awards of up to $10,500 are available.

Applicants are requested to carefully consider the objectives, eligibility and selection criteria detailed in the Guidelines for each grant type to ensure they are applying for the most appropriate funding.

13. Arts NSW
2009 NSW History Fellowship

The NSW History Fellowship is offered annually by the Government to assist a person living in New South Wales to research and produce a work on a subject of historical interest relating to New South Wales. Applicants are required to demonstrate that their project will add to, or bring fresh perspectives to bear upon, their nominated subject. They should also demonstrate that the project will benefit their experience and development as an historian and/or advance scholarly historical writing in New South Wales Funding of $20,000 is available.

14. Arts NSW
2009 NSW Archival Research Fellowship

The fellowship is awarded annually by the Government to assist a person living in NS to complete an innovative and quality research project that makes substantial use of the records collection of the State records Authority of NSW. The successful applicant is expected to produce an article or book for publication, or a website, exhibition film or event that is significant to the people of NSW and promotes the State Records Authority. Funding of $15,000 is available.

15. The Royal Australian Chemical Institute
Cornforth Medal

The Cornforth medal is awarded annually for the most outstanding PhD thesis submitted in a branch of chemistry, chemical science or chemical technology. The medal is designed to give recognition of outstanding achievement in chemistry and to promote chemical communication. The prize will be a bronze relief medal and a suitable cash award. To be eligible for the award, the candidate must be a financial RACI member and must have had the PhD degree approved by the governing body of an Australian University within the previous 13 months dating from the close of applications. No candidate may be nominated more than once.

16. The Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research
The Prime Ministers Awards for Science
The Australian Government awards prizes annually for outstanding scientific achievements and excellence in science teaching. These awards are the most prestigious and significant of their kind in Australia. Nominations are now invited for these awards, which are offered to Australian citizens or those who hold permanent residence status in Australia. Nominations should be made by nominators who are personally knowledgeable of the nominated achievements and who can offer expert opinions on its worth. Self nominations will not be considered.

17. NSW Office for Science and Medical Research*
Travel Scholarships
Full Program:
This phase of the program is designed to foster the career development of emerging researchers through the provision of Travel Scholarships. Scholarships of up to $5,000 are available to enable early postdoctoral researchers within five years' receipt of their PhD to present research at international conferences and/ or institutions. It is expected that successful applicants will also visit overseas laboratories or centres of excellence, and that a report on the travel will be provided to the Grants Assessment Committee.
