RMS Login Training

RMS allows researchers requesting funding under the ARC National Competitive Grants Program to prepare and submit proposals electronically via the internet. Each proposal is completed by researchers and consists of an electronic document generated from a combination of data entered directly into the proposal form, and PDF documents attached to the proposal form, in RMS.

RMS is used by:

• researchers to complete pre-submission eligibility issues and proposals and submit them to the relevant administering organisation
• administering organisations (Research Offices) to check pre-submission eligibility issues and proposals and submit them to the ARC
• administering organisations (Research Offices) to maintain internal user account records
• ARC administrators

These half hour sessions will provide researchers with important information about how to access RMS, including time-saving tips and pitfalls to watch out for.

RGMS Login Training

The NHMRC is currently replacing its existing IT system Research Management Information System (RMIS) and various satellite systems to enable improvements in the effectiveness and efficiency of its grants management functions. NHMRC commenced the design of an in house ‘build’ solution to NHMRC grants administration reporting and financial management requirements in 2006. Funding considerations and the availability of improved commercial products resulted in NHMRC’s purchase of Clarity, a Computer Associates grants management system being used by nine Commonwealth Government departments and agencies.

Clarity is being implemented as NHMRC’s new Research Grants Management System (RGMS) and will replace the existing programme delivery support system that is now over 10 years old, with a robust, web-enabled solution.

RGMS will enable users to

• maintain a Curriculum Vitae (CV),
• make grant applications and manage awarded grants on-line,
• provide electronic entry and lodgement of expressions of interest, applications, assessments, questions, responses and milestones for all NHMRC grant schemes.

It will also improve access to information about the outputs and impact of Australian Government health and medical research funding and reduce administrative burdens for researchers, volunteer assessors, reviewers and NHMRC internal staff. The requirements previously identified by the NHMRC’s External User Reference Group during the in house ‘build’ solution project are being incorporated into the new RGMS, which is highly configurable and will be managed by NHMRC staff.

These half hour sessions will provide researchers with important information about how to set up your project as an application in RGMS, including time-saving tips and pitfalls to watch out for.

Linkage Project Information Session

This one hour session will provide intending applicants to the ARC Linkage Projects Program with comprehensive instructions on how to populate RMS and comply with the Funding Rules and Instructions

NHMRC Grant Information Session

This one hour session will provide intending applicants to the NHMRC Project Grants Program with comprehensive instruction on how to comply with the Funding Rules and Instructions and how to put together and enter a project budget.

The first twenty minutes will be led by a presenter experienced in managing compliance in this funding program, with the rest of the session providing an opportunity to ask questions and work one on one with a number of GMO staff. It will be immediately followed by a one-hour RGMS training session.

LIEF Information Session "Getting Linkage Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities Grants Right"

LIEF applications involve extensive negotiations and require careful planning. With this in mind, we are convening a workshop to work through the processes of applying for and managing these quite complex grants. Of most interest to people who intend to submit a LIEF application in 2010, it will also be useful for those currently managing LIEF grants. This year’s applicants, whether successful or not (and we will hear the results soon), should find the session of value.

This one and a half hour workshop will take participants through:

• The purpose and guiding principles of the Australian Research Council’s Linkage Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities Program
• What to consider when mounting a major infrastructure bid
• How to gain approval and financial support for your bid from the University of New South Wales
• Eligibility issues
• Writing a competitive application
• Budgeting
• UNSW success rates
• After winning the grant, how to get the money flowing
• Getting the equipment, infrastructure or facility up and running (including procurement tips and traps)
• Access for partners and who owns what
• Closing out the grant including reporting requirements

Presenters:

A/Professor Grainne Moran, Managing Director UNSW Analytical Centre
Janice Besch, Director, Grants Management Office

…and a successful applicant for facilities grants…. [TBA]
A light lunch will be provided.

ARC Discovery Project Information Session

This one hour session will provide intending applicants to the ARC Discovery Projects Program with comprehensive instructions on how to populate RMS and comply with the Funding Rules and Instructions

The session will be led by a presenter experienced in using RMS and managing compliance in this funding program, with the back end of the session providing an opportunity to ask questions and work one on one with a number of GMO staff. It will be preceded by a 30 min training session in how to access the ARC’s RMS electronic grant application and management system.
